I have been talking to the local DEC salesman, Dave Liscom, about various DEC
systems. Also Ralph Gorin thinks there is a possibility of getting some
DEC equipment for me as part of a major order being placed quite soon. (I guess
this is another 2060 for the Stanford LOTS system.)
I have talked with Liscom about the various PDP11 systems and have come up
with a package that looks like it would work for a music graphics system.
The core of this is the PDP11/24 (SM-FXMMA) described on page 40 of the PDP11
Systems Summary catalog (Jan.-Mar. 1982.) The extras that would be needed
with this system are a VT125 terminal (or GIGI and monitor), the FORTRAN compiler,
the FPF11 floating point hardware, and, if possible 1 or 2 units of MS11-LD
expansion memory (256KB each.) There may be some other items that would be
needed but this is all that I know about at the moment other than things like
an interface for a Versatek. This system seems to be in the $28000+ range.
Ralph tells me it may be possible to cover about $10000+ from his end if the
rest could be on some grant from DEC. I gather Ralph's plans are being finalized
quite soon so I would like to hear your thoughts on this in the next few days.
